He has been working as an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust for over 26 years. Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience working at various hospitals in Edinburgh, Borders, Yorkshire, and Sunderland, where he trained in multiple surgical specialties. Dr. Ahmed achieved his Surgical Fellowship (FRCS) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2000.

Dr. Ahmed specializes in a range of oncoplastic breast procedures, including skin-sparing mastectomies, implant and acellular dermal matrix reconstructions, LD reconstructions with or without implants, therapeutic mammoplasties, augmentation, reduction, symmetrization, and breast-conserving surgeries. He also performs breast surgeries with or without wire localization, utilizing advanced techniques such as radiofrequency seed localization. Dr. Ahmed works in one of the UK’s top units, renowned for performing the highest number of cases using One-Step Nucleic Acid Amplification (OSNA) for axillary staging.

He is a core member of the Breast Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) at BHNHST and also contributes to Thames Valley Oncoplastic Surgery (TOPS). Dr. Ahmed has published numerous research papers, and his work has been presented at international conferences such as the European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC), where he discussed SNB and OSNA. He is also a faculty member for breast surgery courses run by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

In addition, Dr. Ahmed serves as a co-investigator for the POSNOC trial in the UK, which investigates the role of axillary surgery in early breast cancer, and for the LORIS trial, which examines the possibility of avoiding surgery in low-risk DCIS cases. Passionate about teaching and mentoring, he has worked as a Tutor in the Oxford Deanery (HETV) and has been a member of the School of Surgery for several years. Dr. Ahmed is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s Professional Affairs Board, South Central region.

Furthermore, Dr. Ahmed has been actively involved in medical policy, having served as the Deputy Chair of one of the British Medical Association’s branches and as Chair of Strategy, Policy, and Procedure.
