Dr. Md. Mohsen Chowdhury is a distinguished surgeon with extensive experience in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. He earned his MBBS degree from Chittagong Medical College in 1985 and completed his FCPS in Surgery in 1999 from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), Dhaka. Following his MBBS, Dr. Chowdhury joined government service and worked as a Medical Officer in various district hospitals before serving as a Registrar (Surgery) at Chittagong Medical College & Hospital from 1999 to 1995. During this time, he completed his FCPS and pursued fellowship training in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the National University Hospital, Singapore.
In 1995, Dr. Chowdhury joined Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the Department of Surgery. Over the years, he held positions as Registrar, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and eventually Professor. For the past decade, he has been serving in the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at BSMMU, where he currently holds the position of Professor and Chairman of the Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, and Liver Transplant Surgery.
Dr. Chowdhury has also pursued advanced training in leading institutions, including Tata Memorial Hospital (Mumbai), Sir Gangaram Hospital (Delhi), the Institute of Liver Transplant at Medanta Medicity Hospital (Delhi), and Global Hospitals (Chennai). His expertise spans liver resections for tumors, hemangiomas, extended cholecystectomy for gallbladder tumors, pancreatic surgeries for conditions such as pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, and bile duct reconstructions for strictures. He has also played an active role in numerous liver transplantation surgeries.
Dr. Chowdhury has presented at numerous national and international surgical and liver transplant conferences, sharing his expertise through academic presentations and clinical research papers. He is deeply involved in teaching, mentoring postgraduate students, and organizing fellowship examinations. Additionally, he is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Bangladesh Society of Surgeons, Laparoscopic Surgeons Society, and IASGO. His research contributions have been published in both national and international journals, solidifying his reputation as a leader in his field.
